2025 Exhibition programme
MASI’s 2025 exhibition programme revolves around rediscoveries, original combinations, stories of encounters and creative synergies, and an exploration of the history of the visual arts in Switzerland, and Ticino in particular, tracing its dynamic, international trajectory.
The programme opens with an exhibition by the artist Louisa Gagliardi, one of the most interesting names on the Swiss contemporary art scene. The spring of 2025 sees the exhibition "Ferdinand Hodler – Filippo Franzoni", a unique dialogue between two artists who, in different ways, contributed to the development of modern art in Switzerland between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The autumn season continues with the largest retrospective of the last twenty years devoted to Richard Paul Lohse, one of the leading international exponents of geometric abstraction. The group show “Carona The Lost Paradise 1968-1978: David Weiss and the Artists of Casa Aprile” explores Ticino’s past as a hub for creative encounters. The museum's ongoing focus on photography, which has seen valuable artistic archives being rediscovered, continues in 2025 with an exhibition devoted to Eugenio Schmidhauser. Schmidhauser, who was active in the early 20th century, was part of the significant current in photography that bore witness to the social, cultural and economic development of the area.
Lastly, the return of "Sentiment and observation" continues the focus on the museum's collections and the history of art in Ticino, strongly marked by influences from the South and the North.
